For Stroke

When a loved one suffers from a stroke, it is a traumatic event. The loss of normal functionality after a stroke makes what once was a simple activity like walking, shopping, or simply getting out of bed not longer so simple.

Once the stroke is stablised, the road to recovery can begin. Recovering from a stroke to regain as much functionality as before depends on how well the brain is able to ‘re-learn’ using the unaffected parts of the brain to ‘take over’ the work of the affected parts.

This relearning is referred to as brain plasticity, also known as neuroplasticity. It suggests that the location of a given function in the brain (for example, speech, movement) can move to another area of the brain. This transfer can be activated by repetitive learning. This is done by sprouting of new synaptic connections and creating new pathways to unaffected parts of the brain.
